Organizational Overview

The Institute of International Finance is the global association of the financial industry, with more than 450 members from more than 70 countries. Its mission is to support the financial industry in the prudent management of risks; to develop sound industry practices; and to advocate for regulatory, financial and economic policies that are in the broad interests of its members and foster global financial stability and sustainable economic growth. IIF members include commercial and investment banks, asset managers, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds, central banks and development banks.

Internship Summary

The IIF is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated graduate student to support its Economic Research department with a focus on Latin America. Responsibilities include but are not limited to researching topics relate to current macroeconomic and financial developments in the major Latin American economies, including issues like international capital flows, macroeconomic policies and political developments. The intern will also contribute to IIF economic publications, construct and update economic databases, analyze data, and monitor macroeconomic and financial developments. This is a part-time unpaid remote internship; however, it offers an excellent opportunity to enhance your knowledge, gain experience, and sharpen your research skills, and may qualify for academic credit. We request a minimum commitment of 16 to 20 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible.

Minimum Qualifications

A successful candidate would have a demonstrable interest or experience in Latin America, excellent research and writing skills, and be able to manage a substantive research project independently. Master's degree in in finance, economics, or statistics is preferred, but a comparable degree in a related discipline may be acceptable. Proficient with Microsoft Office 360 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Previous knowledge and/or experience is an advantage. Ability to speak Spanish fluently is preferred. Strong quantitative skills are required, especially in Excel. Experience with data providers such as Bloomberg or Haver would be an advantage.
