Business Unit Overview

This position is part of Novanta's Corporate and Shared Services global team. Novanta's Corporate and Shared Services teams play an important role in executing the company's strategic mission and operations. Included in Corporate and Shared Services are the business functions including Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Development and Corporate Marketing. The Corporate and Shared Services teams work closely with all Novanta business units to support operating initiatives contributing to the organization's financial success.

Job Summary

As a Senior Finance Manager, you will be part of the Corporate Finance team, playing a crucial role in developing budgets and forecasts, and will help track, analyze, and report on the operating costs of the global Corporate and Shared Service teams. You will collaborate with multiple cross-functional leaders and their teams, providing essential support to managing the company's operating expenses and capital expenditures. You will help develop business cases for both tactical and strategic projects, helping drive good decision-making based on strong financial rationale. This role will also provide leadership for purchasing and vendor management activities related to key vendors that support the Corporate and Shared Services organization. In this role you will be empowered to identify and lead process improvements, and to initiate projects that help improve process efficiency and better financial outcomes for the company. The candidate must be a "hand's on" leader, who enjoys challenges and thrives in a demanding environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead financial planning and analysis processes for Corporate and Shared Services teams, including budgets, forecasts, performance analysis, and management presentations
  • Provide financial modeling and decision-support for special projects, to drive Novanta's strategic goals, and the goals of the Corporate and Shared Service teams
  • Support day-to-day needs for vendor management, purchasing, requisition of services, and other third-party spending activities of the Corporate and Shared Service departments, partnering closely with the global supply chain organization as needed
  • Support other Corporate Finance or purchasing processes, ad-hoc analysis requests and/or projects as needed.
  • Support process improvements across Corporate and Shared Services processes, including areas such as IT, HR, Accounting, Legal, Supply Chain, and other areas; drive process efficiencies and better financial outcomes for the company

Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies

  • BS degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Minimum 5 years experience in some of the following areas: financial planning and analysis, financial management, cost management
  • Exceptional financial, analytical, and modeling skills
  • Proven management abilities in the areas of performance management, leadership influence and c-suite engagement
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently; "hand's on" worker
  • Advanced MS Excel, Enterprise Performance Management tools (HFM, Oracle EPM, etc.) and Business Intelligence tool (PowerBI, etc.)
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives, including problem identification & mitigation
  • Demonstrated success in project management, including scoping, resource and time management, working cross-functionally, and achieving project targets
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical skills; strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with the demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced unstructured atmosphere with minimal supervision

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel is required to Novanta global locations.
  • Less than 10%

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Ability to use vison to read computer screen and read printed materials
